Garden Point, Tiwi Islands, NT, Australia. Storm season in the top end. Unbearable heat and humidity builds throughout the day, reaching an afternoon crescendo of dramatic storm fronts violently unloading. The relative cool that follows offers a daily reprieve, breathing new life into the humble communities of Tiwi who call the islands home. The Tiwi own a unique and fiercely proud culture, referring to themselves as Tiwi first and Aboriginal second. Their lands are wild and vibrant, alive with beauty while at the same time fraught with danger. Fishing with a local family at the same spot this image was taken, I watched the eyes of a large saltwater crocodile rise above the surface, it’s huge frame a throwback to prehistoric times hidden beneath the surface. Over a period of hours it slowly floated closer, watching our movements, displaying the cunning patience that makes it one of the fiercest predators on the planet. @davidmauricesmith David Maurice Smith/@oculi for the Hayden Reynolds Tiwi College. #tiwiislands #australia #aboriginal #northernterritory #oculicollective #photography

Hafa Adai! My name is @nancyborowick and I am joining the team at @everydayasia. I have just arrived to Guam, my new home for at least the next few years. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Guam is a tiny island located in the western Pacific Ocean and it is an unincorporated territory of the United States of America. It is the largest and southern-most island in the Mariana chain and is the largest island in Micronesia. It sits in a time zone 15-hours ahead of my former home (New York City) and boasts the tag line “Where America’s Day Begins” due to its location west of the international date line. I am an independent photographer and most of my work tends to be long-term and long-form, looking at stories around the themes of family, life, loss and identity with a hint of lightness and humor in the mix. I hope you will follow along as I begin this new chapter! ************** The Micronesia Mall on Guam is always teeming with visitors and shoppers, and there is no shortage of entertainment available within its walls. Off to the side of the food court you can find Funtastic Park, the mall’s indoor amusement park, featuring a roller coaster, arcade games and a merry-go-round. ?: @nancyborowick / Nov 5, 2016. #everydayasia #everydayeverywhere #asia #everydayusa #territory #islandlife #guam #amusementpark #dailylife #thegrimmsofguam
